I am extremely passionate about animals, and throughout my life I have been surrounded by dogs, cats, and horses, being actively involved in their wellbeing and care.

After leaving school, I studied photography while working part time to support my goal of saving to go travelling. Once I completed my studies, I spent a couple of years working and travelling across Australia, Thailand, and New Zealand. On my return home, I spent five years working in the charity sector for some incredible organisations, including Great Ormond Street Hospital, Guide Dogs, and Dogs Trust. While this work was extremely rewarding, I still longed to spend more hands-on time with my beloved canine friends.

In 2018, I made the decision to set up Knox & Hound, a dog walking and care business, with a vision to provide the very best level of care and service to dogs and their owners. Eight years on, I am incredibly proud and fortunate to have built a loyal client base, many of whom have been with me from the very beginning.

I’m Jo Milbourn, and I’m lucky to call the beautiful village of Hartley Wintney home. After many years commuting to London for my role at a large bank, life’s perspective changed when I had my two children, embracing a slower pace of life and a stronger sense of community.

Since then, I have focused on working locally, including roles at a village boutique and running a Bell Tent hire company in the years following Covid. Most recently, I worked for an artificial grass firm, though it became clear that office-based work was not where my long-term interests lay.

Dogs have always played a significant role in my life. Growing up with rescue dogs from various charities instilled a lifelong appreciation for their companionship and wellbeing.

With my children now a little older, I am ready to begin a new chapter — one that enables me to spend more time outdoors and reconnect with a longstanding passion: caring for and working alongside dogs.

When not dog walking I’m generally enjoying family life with my husband, children & Labrador - Milo - whilst guilty of taking far too many photos of anything & everything through daily life.

Animal Care Level 2

I have always been interested in working with animals and have always loved being around them. I couldn’t find a way into animal work in South Africa, so I volunteered at DARG, an animal charity in Cape Town specialising in rehoming dogs and cats. My duties included preparing and feeding food, cleaning enclosures, walking dogs, and entertaining the cats. As this role was voluntary, I needed an income, so I decided to help people as well and qualified as a Yoga Teacher, starting my own yoga business in 2008.

My husband and I moved to the UK in 2009, and after settling into the UK system, I restarted my yoga business in Basingstoke. In 2016, I also became a pet sitter. I found pet sitting incredibly rewarding, and clients responded positively to my work ethic, which led me to explore dog walking as well.

When I’m not dog walking, I’m either teaching yoga, teaching seniors in the community simple dance and exercise classes, or spending time with my family and friends.

After group dog walking for two years, Beth joined the team at Knox & Hound in 2024, and oversees the Basingstoke area, and covers in Hook and Hartley Wintney when required.

I joined Knox & Hound last February and am delighted to now be part of the team.

I have spent the last 22 years raising a family and fundraising for cystic fibrosis, and I now have the time to dedicate to my second biggest love – all things dogs. I have had dogs for most of my life and currently own two labradoodles, Tessie and Flo.

Before having children, I worked with children, mainly under fives, including nannying roles. This also involved spending two years living and working in Vancouver, Canada.
